A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Our Rainbow Bell Choir performs their song before Sunday’s service. Thank you kids, and thank you Sue Johnson, their conductor.

Our Annual Parish Meeting will be catered next Sunday. Grinder sandwiches of various varieties will be provided with a few simple side dishes. Therefore it is not a potluck – save your potluck dish for the bishop’s visit in mid-February. (However, if you want to bring a dessert to share you are welcome.) The annual meeting will follow the 10am service next Sunday, January 26. Come hear reports on the year and plans for what’s ahead, plus elections and a finance report.

Wow, Those Windows! Thank you for donating to the Capital Campaign to help with major projects like protecting our chapel and re-windowing our hallway. Special thanks to the vestry for their hard prep work on this project, for Jeff Faistenhammer our Junior Warden who did yeoman’s work getting all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed, and for Peter Jett our acting Junior Warden who monitored the project all day on Monday and Tuesday. More capital campaign projects are yet to come. Make a “spontaneous contribution” using a yellow envelope on the resource table and you’ll know your dollars helped make all these things a reality.

There Is A Basket In the Hallway for collecting canned goods for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry.  Please feel free to donate non perishable foods to help the cause at any time.

St. James’ next Soup Kitchen Day is  January 18, 2020.  The first shift will meet in the chapel parking lot at 8:20am to load up and carpool. They will set up and cook the food.  The second shift should arrive at Spirit of Hope by 11:30 to help serve and clean up, and will be done by 1:45pm.  You may choose to stay the entire day if you wish.  Sign-up sheets are on the Outreach bulletin board in the hallway.  Please contact Amy Kohair if you have questions: 734-693-0694

Bishop Bonnie’s Consecration is planned for February 8. All are welcome to join in the celebrations:

  • THE CONSECRATION CEREMONY will occur on Saturday, February 8, at the Ford Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. Doors open at 9am, processions begin at 10:30am, the liturgy begins formally at 11am, and a reception begins at 1pm. Seats are first-come-first-served. Phil strongly encourages you to arrive early to ensure you find a seat.
  • A CONSECRATION PRE-RECEPTION will be held on Friday, February 7, at “The Henry” in Dearborn from 6:30pm to 10pm so you can greet the bishop elect. Hors d’oeuvres will be served early in the evening and dancing will happen later in the evening.
  • THE FORMAL WELCOMING & SEATING of the 11th Bishop of Michigan will be held on Sunday, February 9, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Detroit as part of their 11am worship service.

A Get-To-Know Bishop Bonnie Dinner will be held at Saint James on Wednesday, February 12 from 6:30 to 8:30pm in Galloway Hall. If possible, please bring a dish to share. Our bishop is making it a priority to visit every worshipping community in the diocese this year. This is our chance to visit with her. Time will made to hear from our new bishop (she will have been consecrated only 4 days earlier!). She also dearly wants to hear from us. To help coordinate the finer details of this dinner please speak with Fr. Phil or Blanche Hutchison our Senior Warden.

The Grosse Ile Animal Shelter is Hosting a fundraiser for the shelter on February 22nd, 2020. It is a Mardi Gras style event at Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club. 🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

Upcoming Event:

Sunday, January 19, 2020  10:00 A.M. in the Main Church  The choir presents two significant musical offerings on this day from two separate Bach Cantatas – “The Only Son From Heaven,” which is the closing chorale from BWV 22 and is appropriate to the Gospel for that day, and the familiar “Jesu bleibet meine Freude” (Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” which is also the closing chorale from BWV 147.  We will have guest musicians to appropriately accompany these two works. If you would like to sponsor the cost of the musicians as a thank-offering or memorial, please speak with Jim Johnson.

An Invitation for all pianists and instrumentalists…   If you would like to play one or more selections during the 10:00 A.M. worship service, please speak with our Minister of Music Jim Johnson.  As an inviting and inclusive community of worshipers, we want to give those with musical gifts the opportunity to participate in worship in such a way.
